What is Aqiqah?

So, what’s this Aqiqah thing all about? Well, it’s a beautiful tradition in the Muslim community where families celebrate the arrival of a new baby by sacrificing a lamb or a goat to Allah swt. This sacrifice is a way of thanking God for the blessing of a new life. The meat from the Aqiqah animal is typically shared with family, friends, and those in need, spreading joy and blessings all around!

What currently happens?

When it comes to Aqiqah, you want to make sure its done properly and the meat is top-notch, right? Unfortunately many butchers don’t even tell slaughterhouses to perform Aqiqah with niyah (intention). Aqiqah is only valid if the niyah is correct at the time of slaughter and includes mentioning the name of the baby. Instead they just cut up any halal carcass in their fridge et voila!
